facebook places, yelp, google latitude
2. foursquare: 8.5 milion users
(1) web traffice has declined for five consecutive months, amountng to a 50% reduction in traffic over that period
(2) July 2010 - 2 million users, 1 milion check-ins per day
Dec 2010 - 5 million users, 2 million check-ins per day
3. facebook
the situation is even worse.
4. Yelp and Facebook have better advantages over this competition.
5. why do people check-in?
(1) find people around you
(2) rewarding
(3) to remember things
(4) personal branding
6. the reason to stop significant growth for LBS
(1) the serendipity factor: it's not so hot in big cities like Los Angeles that are too spread out for these serendipitous moments to happen.
(2) Games are fun for about two weeks, but most don't have staying power.
